Livingston historic panel approves painted storefront lettering for Cactus the Awesome Collective

At its March 11 meeting, the Livingston Historic Preservation Commission unanimously approved proposed painted lettering above the door of Cactus the Awesome Collective at 2011 West Calendar Street.

The application requested flat black painted lettering directly on the building façade, roughly nine feet long and with individual letters about five to six inches high. Jennifer, the commission’s designated historic preservation officer, described the submission as “one of the more straightforward ones I think that's ever come in front of us.”

The commission reviewed a photograph of the proposed sign and confirmed the paint would be flat black rather than reflective. Commissioner Wendy Gibson moved to approve the proposed lettering “about the door.” Commissioner Kristen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote with all members present voting in favor.

Commission staff said the sign will be painted directly on the facade and that an apparent small misprint on the application appeared to be above the door and minor. No conditions or revisions were recorded in the public discussion. The commission did not add follow-up requirements or refer the item to staff for further review.
