Resident urges city attention to Kentucky coffee-tree stems clogging yards and equipment

At the start of the April 14 meeting, resident Jerry Burke told the Parks Advisory Board that Kentucky coffee trees planted on his terrace at 1733 Northpointe are dropping numerous woody stems that clog and damage yard equipment.
Burke said he and his neighbors have collected large volumes of stems: last fall he filled four 39-gallon bags with stems and said the problem now continues into spring. He said stems can plug snowblowers and damage lawn-mower blades and that similar problems occur across the street on a neighbor's property.
Burke said he had discussed the issue with the city parts department, which had received other calls but had not seen anyone raise the issue before the board. He asked the board and staff to consider whether anything can be done; staff took the comment for follow up.
No formal action was recorded on the citizen's statement during the meeting; the remark was entered into public comment for staff consideration.
