The Franklin Economic Development Commission said it will delay release of its biannual economic-development report until after April 1 so the report can include newly elected council members without running afoul of local election rules.
John Gregage, director, told the commission that Brooks Communications had completed photo work and wanted to present the finished biannual report at the commission’s next meeting. Gregage said the report will be ready but could not be released before April 1 because of election-related restrictions on using elected officials’ names and photos.
“We had to wait until after April 1 to release this because of election laws. We can't have names or photos of any of the elected officials,” Gregage said.
Commissioners discussed scheduling the business appreciation celebration and the publication calendar so future reports can be released without conflicting with election timelines. They noted the December newsletter schedule often conflicts with the election cycle and suggested moving timing of some outreach to avoid the restriction in future years.
Brooks Communications is scheduled to present the completed report at the commission’s next meeting, and staff will add photography opportunities for newly sworn-in council members to the production timeline.
