Lake Dallas ISD recognizes students, clubs, teachers and paraprofessionals
Summary
Board recognized theater and art students, TAFE state and national qualifiers, girls basketball playoff accomplishments and selected teachers and paraprofessionals of the year for each campus.
The Lake Dallas ISD Board of Trustees used the March 24 meeting to recognize student achievements and honor staff across the district.
Lake Dallas High School theater director Melissa Schamp introduced six students who qualified as Texas Thespian Scholars, meeting both performance and academic criteria. Jeanette Murray, the high school art teacher, said freshman Sofia Dunn’s artwork "As I See Myself" was selected for the Texas Youth Art Month spring exhibition at the State Capitol.
Corinth Elementary Principal presented kindergartner April Groover as a winner in the Denco Area 9-1-1 art contest; her drawing will appear in the 2025 Denco training calendar and earned the month of April. Gina Menasian, the district’s education and training teacher and TAFE sponsor, and students described the Teach Tomorrow Summit participation. Two seniors—Stephanie Leonidas (going to UNT for bilingual education) and Zoe Christiansen (McPherson College, biology with an education emphasis and softball)—were recognized for signing to college education programs. The TAFE chapter earned an outstanding chapter award and state-level gold and silver recognitions for competitive events, with several projects advancing to national qualifiers.
Lake Dallas High School’s girls basketball team and Coach Jordan Davis were recognized for a season that finished second in district and reached the regional semifinals; players received district and regional honors, including Maisie Gillum named District 9-4A Offensive Player of the Year and later receiving regional and local media honors.
The board recognized campus-level teachers and paraprofessionals of the year from across the district. Honorees included Jennifer Brumley (Shady Shores Elementary, Teacher of the Year), Lily Childers (Shady Shores paraprofessional), Carolyn Bell (Corinth Elementary teacher), Shirley Fras (Corinth Elementary paraprofessional), Shelby Austin (Lake Dallas Elementary teacher), Sandra Sells (Lake Dallas Elementary paraprofessional), Elizabeth O (LDMS teacher), Julie Prochu (LDMS paraprofessional), Adam Tipps (LDISD First-Year Teacher of the Year, video game design at LDMS), Raquel Cole Stephenson (Lake Dallas High School Teacher of the Year), and Lydia LeBlanc (LDHS paraprofessional). Presenters praised the recipients’ student focus, leadership and service.
The recognitions were presented by campus principals and program sponsors; the board took photographs of honorees during the meeting.
