To reduce future deterioration, members discussed placing paper items in protective clear sleeves and using a stainless-steel cylinder capsule with gasketed seals.
The committee tentatively discussed a long-term opening date such as 25 to 50 years but left the precise time frame open for future council action. Members asked the city clerk and city manager to participate in assembling contributions and indicated they would draft letters and finalize capsule contents ahead of the May 18 event.
Committee members agreed to keep the time-capsule item as an open item for follow-up, with staff tasked to collect quotes and photographs of candidate capsules and return them for review at a subsequent meeting.
