Parking enforcement: The mayor said the city has hired a second parking enforcement officer to begin enforcing Saturday parking around the waterfront, Bay Street, and parts of downtown to support the farmers market and boaters. Code changes and updated parking maps are in progress; the mayor said signage will be specific on times per the city attorney's guidance. Finance staff later reported parking-infraction revenue collected in 2024 was roughly $38,000 (about $34,000 in 2023). Council discussed whether part-time staffing levels versus a full-time position were the most cost-effective structure.
Solar canopy, generator and City Hall closure: The mayor reported that about half of the solar panels are installed on the new canopy over Kitsap Street and that the city plans to switch City Hall power to the new generator and solar. To avoid a Puget Sound Energy change order estimated at $21,000 for after‑hours reconnection, the city will close City Hall to the public on Friday, April 11, and continue services remotely and via the drop box. The mayor said the closure will not affect the Department of Community Development building operations.
Water system planned outage: Public works staff said a warranty repair to a pump manifold at the Stetson booster station (serving Stetson Heights) is scheduled for March 27. Residents in the affected area have been notified with door hangers and electronic message boards; staff said they expect the repair could be completed within an hour but are planning for longer if issues arise.
Public works staff also noted upcoming demolition work at the old pump station plaza and coordination with the port and adjacent property owners to manage pedestrian detours during construction.
No formal council action was taken on these operational updates during the meeting.
