Commission recommends SUP for 'Kindred' studio and small‑event venue at 126 Taylor Street

The Keller Planning and Zoning Commission on March 25 unanimously recommended approval of a specific‑use permit for the Kindred, a proposed publicly available studio and small‑event venue at 126 Taylor Street in Old Town Keller.

Planner Aaron Edelman told commissioners the building is roughly 1,048 square feet and was formerly the Golden House Spa. The applicant said Kindred will offer rentable interior rooms equipped for photography, videography and podcasting and will also make the backyard available for shoots and small private gatherings. The applicant intends to operate the business initially with herself and her husband, later hiring a coordinator; Monday‑Thursday hours were proposed as 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Event parking is calculated at one space per three people; staff estimated an occupant load near 50 people and said that would require about 17 spaces. The site has five public parking spaces and one accessible space directly adjacent.

The city mailed 23 notices to property owners within 300 feet and staff received no written comments. The applicant described plans to outfit interior rooms with lighting and backdrops, to improve landscaping in the backyard and to offer memberships and small, scheduled events. Commissioners asked about demand and parking; the applicant said demand from photographers and creatives is already evident and that surrounding on‑street and public parking along neighboring streets would serve bookings, especially for weekday studio use.

The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the City Council on April 15.
