The committee also supported a Miami Lakes Chamber luncheon on May 14 at which a Major identified as Major Gonzo would speak; committee members discussed sponsoring committee attendance at the luncheon if the town’s finance staff confirms the appropriate budget line.
The committee discussed the town’s existing process for budget-neutral sponsorship revenues — staff advised that sponsorships must be clearly labeled in the council report so funds are treated as sponsorship revenue rather than general fund revenue. Members agreed to follow up with finance staff to establish the correct line-item designation before allocating money for luncheons or related expenses.
Other items discussed included scheduling a Coffee with a Cop for May 15 and tentative dates for a RAD women’s self-defense class on May 27–29; the committee asked staff to coordinate scheduling with the sheriff’s office and the town’s communications team for outreach and registration.
The motions to present to Elderly Affairs and to pursue Law Enforcement Appreciation Month initiatives were approved in committee and staff were assigned to follow up with calendar coordination and budget-line clarification.
