The Arroyo Grande City Council introduced an ordinance on first reading to amend Title 6 (Animals) of the municipal code by adopting and incorporating San Luis Obispo County Code Title IX animal regulations by reference, while retaining some city-specific animal requirements.
Police staff led the item. Chief Martinez read the staff report summary, saying the county and contract cities worked together in 2023 to develop consistent animal regulations to streamline enforcement. Commander Ayala and Eric Anderson of County Animal Control were present to answer questions.
Council moved to introduce the ordinance and found the action exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act on the basis that it will not cause a physical change in the environment. The motion passed on roll call.
