Summary

Council heard several community‑engagement updates on March 24, including a new select soccer league using Volunteer Park, a large bicycle and helmet giveaway in partnership with Movo, and the recreation commission’s use of Square for event payments.
The select league will stripe the Volunteer Park field, provide goals and charge players at roughly YMCA rates (approx. $200–$250 per player rather than higher tier fees commonly associated with select programs). The league draws players from Pleasant Ridge, Golf Manor, Amberley and Bond Hill and initially plans to field three age groups. The administration said the league has offered to store goals and reduce theft risk.
The village hosted a bicycle and helmet giveaway with the Movo bike co‑op; organizers reported twice as many people attended as there were bikes available. Movo set up four bike stations for fitting and repair and arranged follow‑up bike distribution for families who could not be served immediately. Council members and community volunteers helped the event; donations of bikes and helmets came from local partners including the Cincinnati Circus and Children’s Hospital (named during the meeting). The recreation commission approved a $500 donation to Movo to support the program.
Community engagement members reported the village now has a Square payment account to accept donations and vendor fees for events. Officials said Square will allow itemized purchases (for example, luminaria kits, raffle tickets or beer tickets) and better track who purchased what at events.
The recreation calendar highlighted upcoming events: Juneteenth, a July parade and picnic (scheduled for June 29 and July 6 items were clarified in the meeting), and a Labor Day event on Sept. 1. The administration and recreation commission plan a postcard mailing to every household to advertise summer events and community calendars.
Why it matters: Increased park programming and greater event infrastructure (payments, vendor registration) expand recreation options for residents. The select league’s lower fees and Movo’s work aim to broaden youth access to sports and bicycles.
Next steps: Recreation and community engagement will finalize agreements with the select league, store equipment as arranged, distribute remaining bikes through Movo and publish event registration and vendor pages via Square.
