Gaston County commissioners on March 25 approved a Level‑1 economic development incentive and authorized county staff to enter an economic development agreement (EDA) with “Project Peacock,” a manufacturer planning to expand operations to Gaston County.
Alicia Summey, assistant director of the county Economic Development Commission, said Project Peacock would initially create 25 jobs paying about Gaston County’s average annual wage (roughly $52,000) and invest approximately $2,000,000 in machinery and equipment at the Gaston Commerce Center. Summey said the building under consideration is about 280,000 square feet; the company plans to occupy about 70,000 square feet initially with potential to expand to roughly 150,000 square feet.
Summey described the company’s products as retail display systems sold to grocery stores and pharmacies and said the standard Level‑1, five‑year grant request is being recommended. She also said the City of Gastonia council would consider a related approval the following week.
With no public comment, the board voted unanimously to approve the county Level‑1 grant and authorization to enter the EDA.
