Commissioners approve small rezoning near Cherryville; planning board had recommended approval

The Gaston County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously March 25 to approve a general rezoning request for a 0.09‑acre parcel near Cherryville, rezoning the property from R‑1 (Single‑Family Limited) and I‑2 (General Industrial) to R‑2 (Single‑Family Moderate).
Peyton Wiggins of Planning and Zoning presented the staff report, saying the parcel at the corner of Tryon Courthouse Road and County Line Road is currently vacant, is to be served by private well and septic, and sits in a primarily residential area. Wiggins said notices and an on‑site sign were posted in accordance with state law and that the Technical Review Committee returned no comments.
The Planning Board had recommended approval 7‑0 at its March 3 meeting. With no public comments at the commissioners’ meeting, Commissioner Fraley moved to approve and Commissioner Hovis seconded; the vote was unanimous and the clerk recorded the approval.
Ending: The rezoning will be reflected in county tax mapping and allows any uses permitted in the R‑2 district consistent with applicable development standards.
