At its Jan. 23 meeting the Muskego Lake District Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to authorize the chairperson to apply for a chemical aquatic plant control permit, enabling staff to pursue regulatory approval for aquatic weed treatments.
A motion to authorize the chair to apply for the permit was made and seconded; the board approved it by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The board did not discuss a vendor, cost estimates, treatment schedule or specific herbicides at the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner Pylock described the authorization as allowing staff to obtain the permit that would permit weed treatments. “Essentially, it's for allowing me to authorize getting weed treatments for the aquatic plants,” Pylock said.
Votes at a glance
- Authorize chairperson to apply for chemical aquatic plant control permit — Approved (voice vote, unanimous). - Approve minutes from Oct. 10, 2023 — Approved (voice vote). - Motion to adjourn — Approved (voice vote).
Why it matters: The permit is a prerequisite for regulated chemical treatments of aquatic plants; authorizing the chair to apply starts the regulatory process but does not itself commit the district to a treatment plan, vendor or budget. The board did not set timelines or implementation details; staff will need to follow permitting procedures and return to the board for any treatment approvals.
