County to rebid Palm City property procurement; BOCC to consider Port Salerno purchase

County staff updated the CRA board on two property matters affecting CRA geographies: a rebid of a Palm City property procurement and a planned county purchase of a Port Salerno parcel.

Susan Korres told the board that a bid opening for a Palm City property produced one responsive bid that purchasing later deemed nonresponsive; several firms issued “no bid” responses that cited timing and other reasons. Korres said the county will rebid the procurement, schedule a pre-proposal meeting so prospective bidders can ask questions, and advised board members not to discuss the procurement directly with potential bidders (all bidder questions should go to the county purchasing office).

Regarding Port Salerno, Korres said the county — with commissioner and public-works support — is scheduled to consider purchase of a Port Salerno property at a price of $529,600. Korres said funding for the purchase would be split between commissioner funds and stormwater funds. The county intends to use the parcel for stormwater retention and green space in the Port Salerno CRA; Korres said structures on the property will likely be removed quickly if the BOCC approves the purchase.

Board members who represent Port Salerno expressed frustration that large infrastructure priorities such as sewer have been long delayed and that visible changes elsewhere sometimes occur more quickly. Staff and commissioners’ representatives reiterated that the New Monrovia park and Park Drive projects are funded and moving forward and described the Port Salerno purchase as a stormwater- and green-space investment aligned with county priorities.

Staff said the Port Salerno purchase will appear on the BOCC agenda the following day for formal consideration.
