Board waives second reading, advances tennis-court, track, turf and skylight projects for summer work
Summary
The Lincoln Public Schools Board approved waiving second readings and advancing summer facilities projects including tennis-court resurfacing at Southwest High and turf playground installations at several small elementary schools.
At the March 25 meeting Lincoln Public Schools staff asked the board to waive second readings and approve several facility projects planned for this summer, and the board approved the waivers and project authorizations.
Liz, the district staff member presenting the facilities slate, said the projects are typical summer work and comparable to work the district has completed previously. She described four categories: Southwest High School tennis-court resurfacing; a track renovation at North Star; turf installation at several small elementary schools (named in the packet as Huntington, Prestot and Saratoga); and skylight replacements at Friedstrom, Cooser and Southwest paid from an insurance fund related to damage claims.
Board members who spoke in favor cited positive results from similar projects at other schools, including reduced mud at preschool play areas and more usable outdoor space. The board approved a motion to waive second reading for items 9.1.1–9.1.4 and then voted to move forward with the projects; see “Votes at a glance” for the formal vote record.
District staff said they reevaluate and schedule facility projects annually and that this list represents the work planned this coming summer.
