Oconomowoc council approves reserve Class B liquor license for Cavos LLC with occupancy condition

The City of Oconomowoc Common Council on Jan. 7, 2025, voted to grant a reserve Class B intoxicating liquor and fermented malt beverage license to Cavos LLC for a business at the former Gordy's Marine Boat Sales location near Cornerstone, with the condition that the city not issue the license until final fire and building inspections are complete and the owner confirms an opening date no later than Feb. 6, 2025.

City staff member Gina Kozlak said the application was reviewed by the Protection and Welfare committee, which recommended council approval. “This was just reviewed at, sorry, Protection and Welfare this evening, and they've passed it on for recommendation to council. It's a reserve class B. This is in the old Gordy's Marine Boat Sales location next to Cornerstone. We're awaiting final inspections from fire and building for occupancy. So we are looking for a motion with the condition that our office not issue the license until the owner confirms the opening date no later than February 6,” Kozlak said.

Alderman Prosexton moved the motion to approve the license with the stated condition; Alderman Mulder seconded. The council approved the motion by roll call, with each alderman recorded as voting “Aye.” The roll call names recorded in the transcript were Alderman Douglas, Alderman Rosick, Alderman Altman Cloth, Alderman Ellis, Alderman Spiegelberg, Alderman Mulder, Alderman Shellpepper, and Alderman Maroney.

The council’s action authorizes the licensing step subject to the stated inspections and owner confirmation; staff will not issue the license until those conditions are met. The council did not specify additional deadlines beyond the owner-confirmed opening date of Feb. 6, 2025.

Next steps: city staff will track completion of building and fire inspections and the owner’s confirmation of an opening date before issuing the license.
