At the Jan. 8 meeting the committee was told Veolia notified county staff that the Muskego residential electronics collection site will no longer host collections in 2024.
A staff member reported the change and said they have been working with neighboring communities and vendors to find a replacement. The staff member said they have a promising on‑site meeting scheduled with Franklin Landfill to discuss assuming the Muskego schedule and that they will update the committee after that follow‑up.
The committee also received the household hazardous waste program report for 2023 (January–November data). The staff member said total participants were down about 1.92% compared with the previous year and that total costs were expected to finish “just under budget.” The staff member cautioned the dataset in the circulated report is subject to internal and Veolia audits and noted a voicemail from Veolia flagging a typo in the total‑pounds figure.
A committee member asked whether under‑budget funds carry over to the next year. The staff member initially misspoke, saying they did not, and then corrected that “we do get to carry that over” and acknowledged budgeting was new to them in the role.
The staff member also said a second tank container for electronics at the drop‑off helped eliminate overflow and kept residential drop‑off orderly during the slower winter months. The committee asked staff to continue outreach while staff pursue alternate collection locations for the southeastern portion of the county.
