The Oak Creek Plan Commission on Feb. 25 approved site and related plans for exterior modifications at Oak Creek Wood Products, 190 West Marquette Ave., including construction of a perimeter fence with privacy slats and a revised parking layout.
Staff described the proposed fence as a mix of 6- and 8-foot chain-link with privacy slats; the 8-foot portion runs about 200 feet along the north parcel line and then transitions to 6 feet. Setbacks were presented as: 15 feet from First Street, roughly a half-foot from the north property line at one location, 17 feet from the rear (west) and 20 feet from West Marquette Avenue. Installing the fence would remove required parking spaces under the existing layout, so the applicant reconfigured the lot to provide 32 parking spaces where 25 were required.
Why it matters: The approval implements a previously required screening condition tied to an earlier conditional use permit for outdoor storage on the site. The fence and privacy slats are intended to screen storage and organize the industrial lot; commissioners and staff praised the property owner for meeting city standards.
Pete Erickson, vice president of Oak Creek Wood (applicant), said the fence will help screen and clean up a corner of the site. Commissioners asked about long-term maintenance; Erickson said the company will maintain the fence. The commission voted to approve the site plans with the condition that all relevant code requirements remain in effect.
