"We actually had tornado sirens go off… the 2 that were missing or broken from the last 2 decades were finally replaced," the mayor said, reporting that the city’s siren system is now citywide. He credited staff and contractors for the recent installations and said the sound was "a little different" than residents remembered but that the replacement was a major improvement.
The mayor described a recent outreach effort with a high-end restaurant group that toured several local businesses and property owners; he said the group is pursuing possible locations in Blue Island and has contacted property owners. He said the administration hopes to attract a fine-dining option near the Lyric Theatre to complement the downtown theater district.
