Council committee places parade, festival permits and mayoral appointment on regular agenda

At the March 25 committee of the whole meeting the council considered local permit requests and an appointment and referred those matters to the regular agenda for formal approval.
A request to permit Up in Smoke On The Square — described by organizers as the same layout used in previous years — was presented with one operational change: to close the Pulaski–Kickapoo/McLean intersection at 10 a.m. instead of noon because a popular “dock dogs” attraction caused early crowds. Council members placed the event permit on the consent agenda for the regular meeting.
The committee also reviewed a late request for the Lincoln Community High School senior parade on April 26 at 5:00 p.m. The organizer said the parade will be a line of cars that does not require street closures; council members placed that request on the consent agenda as well.
Mayor Tracy Walz said she interviewed applicants for the Ward 4 alderman vacancy and asked that the mayoral appointment of Stan Anderson be placed on the regular agenda next week after interviews with five eligible candidates. The committee also agreed to place a proclamation honoring the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (Lincoln Lodge No. 204) on the regular agenda; the proclamation recognizes the lodge’s long local history and national anniversary.
All matters were referred for formal action on the regular council meeting agenda; no final approvals occurred at the committee meeting.
