Most Belton ISD 2022 bond projects near completion; Delta project pushed to mid-May

The Belton ISD board received a status report on 2022 bond projects showing most major work is complete and in student use, with a handful of remaining items and a delayed completion estimate for one project.
Director of Facilities Doctor Morgan told trustees that Belton High School's new instructional spaces, band-hall addition and CTE facilities are largely finished; outstanding work in the Black Box Theater includes a door frame, commissioning of theater lighting and installation of metal risers and seating. At Lake Belton Middle School, acoustic and lighting issues have been resolved with one permanent sound door still pending.
The Delta project remains delayed because of two technical issues: resolution of shop drawings for an elevated concrete platform (mezzanine) that will carry HVAC and MEP equipment, and a slotted track detail needed for the metal building framing. Morgan said those issues blocked HVAC installation and, therefore, interior finishing; he told the board that substantial completion for Delta is now likely in mid-May. He also described work on energy audits and an RFP process to select an engineering firm for HVAC and lighting design across multiple campuses.
Morgan reported an estimated $3.7 million in savings returning from the guaranteed maximum price (GMP) and about $9 million in remaining budgeted work; the district remains under contract but has not closed on the Charter Oak land purchase discussed previously. The district also continues an auction program to remove older portable classrooms and aims for an 83% reduction in long-term portables on campuses.
