District to buy 930 Chromebooks and upgrade high‑school wireless; purchases to use E‑rate funds where eligible

Prakash, presenting the quotes, said the chosen Chromebook configuration is 8 gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of storage, which the district expects will better support more resource-intensive applications coming to schools over the next several years (including AI-enabled platforms). He said the vendor’s updated quote confirms the shield-protection warranty includes protective cases; the corrected quote will be uploaded to the legislative packet.
Prakash said the district typically rotates devices so that Chromebooks used by seniors are re-deployed to lower grades and that many devices remain usable beyond the three-year warranty window; the technology office reported 899 devices sent for repair between Sept. 1 and the present reporting window.
On wireless upgrades, Prakash said the high-school access points were installed with E-rate funding in 2018 and are reaching end-of-life for current digital-testing and bandwidth requirements. The replacement quote includes hardware, licensing and installation; a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) quote for network closets was also included. The administration expects to complete the work in August to avoid classroom disruptions and intends to submit E-rate Category 2 reimbursement where eligible.
What this means: Technology improvements are part of the district’s refresh plan and, if the legislative board approves the purchases, will support online testing, expanded instructional tools and device longevity.
