Mills County commissioners unanimously approved a proclamation declaring April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month on March 24, 2025. County Judge J. Johnson read the proclamation and members of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and the Mills County Child Welfare Board addressed the court about advocacy and services for children.
CASA community engagement specialist Yvette Rosso outlined the program’s work recruiting and training volunteer advocates who gather information for the judge on cases involving abused and neglected children. Rosso said CASA serves Brown, Comanche and Mills counties and that CASA currently supports volunteers working with 10 children who had been removed in Mills County. Several members of the county’s Child Welfare Board were present and were recognized by the court.
Judge Johnson read the proclamation text that emphasizes the need for strong family well‑being systems, upstream prevention and community partnerships to keep children safe. Commissioner Williams moved to adopt the proclamation and Commissioner Head seconded; the court approved the proclamation by voice vote and invited the CASA board and participants to join for a photo following the vote.
Ending: The proclamation recognizes local child-welfare and prevention work and the court encouraged continued community support and outreach; CASA trustees and board members were acknowledged on the record.
