The Newnan City Council voted March 25 to accept staff's recommendation to award cemetery master-planning services to WLA Studio.
Staff said the recommendation followed a request for proposals prompted by the council's 2024 fall retreat, where members directed staff to develop a comprehensive plan addressing cemetery entryways, signage, landscaping, and options such as a mausoleum or columbarium. Staff told the council it interviewed the three lowest-cost firms and recommended WLA Studio for its depth of relevant experience; the firm is not the low bidder.
Councilmembers praised WLA Studio's background. The staff member presenting the item noted past local work by firms including Pond and Company, TSW, and others, and that WLA's principal, Keyes Williamson, was present at the meeting. Council approved the recommendation by voice vote.
No contract amount, start date, or detailed scope beyond the master-plan description was recorded in the discussion; staff stated WLA Studio was prepared to begin work promptly and that Williamson was in the office and had driven from Athens.
