City accepts neighborhood contributions for Nesbitt Ferry traffic signal; budget amendment approved

The committee approved a budget amendment March 25 to recognize contributions toward construction of a traffic signal at Nesbitt Ferry Road and Nesbitt Lakes Drive. Staff said Nesbitt Lakes Homeowners Association agreed in 2024 to contribute $80,000 and Lennar Homes previously provided $37,500; the city will pay any costs above $117,500. Public Works staff said medians and preparatory work are already underway and estimated signal activation in roughly 90 days, weather permitting.
Councilmember Glee Hills described working with the neighborhood over the past year and said residents had previously paid for a traffic guard during school periods; she praised the organized neighborhood effort and city staff coordination. Transportation staff said the mast arm is scheduled to be delivered in April and city crews will wire and commission the signal once installed.
City CFO Bill Godshall and Transportation Director Jeff Littlefield confirmed the budget amendment creates no net fiscal impact because the contributions offset construction costs. The committee voted unanimously to accept the funds and pass the budget amendment; the item will be placed on the March 26 council agenda for formal action.
