Board approves ownership change for Arden Creek Vineyard and discusses special-use permit transfer

The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors on March 24 approved a new ownership application for a special class C retail native wine license and an outdoor service permit for Glass and Wines LLC, doing business as Arden Creek Vineyard and Winery at 2399 Independence Avenue in Letts.

Why it matters: The board’s approval allows the business to operate under the new ownership with the county liquor license. Supervisors questioned whether an existing special-use permit for events would be affected by the ownership change.

At the meeting supervisors took a motion and second to approve the ownership application; the board approved by voice vote. During discussion a supervisor asked whether a special-use permit tied to events would need to be reissued after an ownership change. A county representative stated that the liquor-license DBA remains Arden Creek Vineyard and Winery and that “the special use permit can transfer with the land,” noting that applicants had previously submitted a list of planned gatherings that exceed the permit threshold and that the county had already approved those gatherings.

The board did not require further action at the meeting to amend the special-use permit; staff indicated one existing permit would cancel and another would start April 1 contingent on the ownership approval.

Board members also asked whether the name change would affect the previously approved permit; staff responses clarified the county’s understanding that ownership — not the trading name — controlled the permit’s transfer.
