Commissioners adopt social media and generative-AI policies, approve Lexipol contract for corrections

Hamilton County commissioners voted March 24 to adopt a social media terms-and-conditions policy, a generative artificial intelligence policy and to enter an agreement with Lexipol to standardize correctional policies and provide ongoing policy updates and training.

County staff said the social media policy, drafted by TMB Sanders and the county attorney's office, codifies existing practices: the county retains ownership of its social-media pages and intellectual property, login credentials remain with the county, and departments must follow the written guidelines. The policy also includes moderation rules, removal of harassing content, and an appeal process. Staff said the policy clarifies that county social accounts are for informational purposes and are not intended as forums for debate.

The proposed generative-AI policy was prepared by Information Systems Security (ISS) and the county's Chief Cyber Security Officer with input from the health-care compliance officer; staff said it had been approved internally and presented for the board’s approval. Commissioners moved, seconded and recorded unanimous approval of both policies.

Separately, the board approved an agreement with Lexipol to apply its policy-management and daily-bulletin services to the corrections division. Staff said Lexipol provides policy updates as state or federal law changes and delivers short applied-training bulletins so staff can put policy into practice. Commissioners approved the contract by recorded vote.

During the policy discussion, staff said they would coordinate templates so county policies follow a consistent format going forward. The actions carried unanimously.
