Greenfield council reapproves alcohol ordinance, OKs sewer, license and contract actions
Summary
At its Jan. 7 meeting the Greenfield Common Council unanimously reapproved an alcohol-licensing ordinance, accepted a library-board resignation and approved multiple agreements, licenses and contracts including a sewer connection with Milwaukee and a professional services contract with Safe Built Wisconsin.
The Greenfield Common Council on Jan. 7 took several administrative and contractual actions, reapproved an alcohol-licensing ordinance and approved agreements and temporary licenses.
Ordinance reapproval: The council reconsidered and reapproved an ordinance amending subsection 13.03(12) and repealing subsection 13.03(18) of the City of Greenfield Code of Ordinances pertaining to alcohol licensing. The city attorney recommended reconsideration; Alderperson Zwicky moved to reconsider and the motion to reapprove was seconded by Alderperson Kasner. A roll-call vote recorded aye votes and the ordinance was reapproved.
Licenses and events: The council approved 2025 operator license applications on a motion by Alderperson Acres, seconded by Alderperson Juzwicki. The council also approved two temporary Class B retailer licenses for the Harley Owners Group, Milwaukee Chapter, authorizing indoor sale of fermented malt beverages at Audio Service Workshop events on Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, 2025, and granted the requested statutory permission to allow unaccompanied persons on the licensed premises under Wisconsin Statute 125.07(3)(a) and (12).
Contracts and agreements: - We Energies license addendum: The council approved addendum number 3 to an existing license agreement with We Energies to allow connections to the Power Line Trail by the Cold Spring Crossing Apartments so the complex can connect directly to the trail. Motion to approve was made by Alderperson Acres and seconded; roll call was unanimous. - Milwaukee sewer agreement: The council approved a sewer agreement with the City of Milwaukee to permit a City of Greenfield storm-sewer connection to a City of Milwaukee storm sewer in the 8100 block of W. Van Buren (reported in the meeting as West Van Bek Avenue). Council members said the connection is intended to address a local flooding problem that crosses the municipal border; the motion to approve was made by Alderperson Castor and seconded by Alderperson Juzwicki and passed unanimously. - Safe Built agreement: The council approved a professional-services agreement with Safe Built Wisconsin LLC to provide building-inspector coverage when city inspectors are unavailable. The item was described as a routine renewal; the motion to approve was made by Alderperson Castner and seconded by Alderperson Juzwicki.
Other business: The council accepted a letter of resignation from Lisonbee Mendoza from the public library board, with thanks for her service; members noted Mendoza had reached her term limit. Appointment of committees and several commission appointments were deferred to the Jan. 21 meeting.
