Greenfield council approves licenses, $259,957.19 in disbursements; hears tree commission update

The Greenfield Common Council met Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at 7 p.m. and approved multiple liquor and operator licenses as well as a schedule of disbursements totaling $259,957.19, Mayor (unnamed) said.
The votes completed a short agenda of routine business. Councilors also heard a brief update from the tree commission and the mayor offered remarks remembering two recent local deaths.
Mayor (unnamed) opened the meeting, offered brief remarks about the recent deaths of longtime community volunteer Marjole Schlager and Michael Hoffman (identified by the mayor as a 1963 graduate of Greenfield High School and his brother-in-law), and called the consent and business items. Deacon Leggett led the meeting in an opening prayer and the council recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Alderman Castro's district received attention when the council heard from the tree commission that 14 trees removed from property at 40 Third Street because of upcoming construction were replanted and relocated to that district. The tree commission also reported that citywide tree pruning began earlier than normal because of mild weather. The council thanked city staff, including John Stevens and unnamed DPW crew members, and a person identified as Dennis for the work.
