Hudson said the sheriff’s office is preparing about 30 officers to enroll in a 287(g)-style application process to support immigration-enforcement collaboration and noted the training has moved online, which may speed participation.
Hudson provided operational statistics for February (data cited from the sheriff’s office): the sheriff’s office reported 57 traffic stops that month with 230 citations issued (figures provided in the presentation), and an average of about 31 calls for service per day countywide during February. Hudson said the department’s use of Flock (license-plate–reading) cameras has become more routine: he said investigators and road-patrol officers use the Flock system daily to locate vehicles tied to investigations and recover stolen property. The transcript records that the county has approximately 51 Flock cameras in operation and that costs and placement are a mixed funding arrangement between the county and partner entities.
Commissioners asked the sheriff’s office to provide periodic reports with enforcement and crime statistics; the board discussed a quarterly presentation as an option and asked staff to break out calls for service by unincorporated county and by city of LaBelle. The sheriff’s office agreed to prepare a regular report (quarterly or biannually as requested) and to provide data on camera effectiveness and outcomes associated with the Flock system.
No formal board action was taken; commissioners asked staff and the sheriff’s office to prepare a template of statistics they would like to see at regular intervals and to begin scheduling the reports.
