Fuquay Varina officials on March 24 highlighted a recent North Carolina Main Street award for The Q, the town's first multi-story mixed-use development in its historic downtown, and presented a Main Street champion recognition to developer David Ball.
Town officials said The Q is four stories and spans about 36,000 square feet with 8,990 square feet of retail, 9,200 square feet of office space and over 18,000 square feet of residential space. Staff stated the project represented more than a $10,000,000 investment, created about 40 jobs and helped spur six new businesses. The town provided a $200,000 economic development incentive toward the project and staff described the building as a milestone for downtown revitalization.
David Ball and Bridal McCormick joined the board for the presentation. The board described Ball as a lifelong Wake County resident and downtown investor; staff said Ball purchased and redeveloped two downtown properties in 2021 and helped lead The Q project. The board also said a commemorative park bench bearing Ball's name will be placed downtown.
The board congratulated project partners; a short video shown at the meeting summarized The Q's tenants and the project's downtown economic effects.
