Council authorizes sale of 20–22 Main Street to Aurora Development with Restore NY grant backing

The Amsterdam Common Council on Jan. 7 authorized the sale of 20–22 Main Street to Aurora Development and Holding Inc. for $55,000, a transaction tied to a $1 million Restore New York grant awarded to the city.
Alderman Christopher Carpenter told the council the city received a $1,000,000 Restore New York grant from Empire State Development to support renovation of the property. The property disposition committee reviewed applicants on Dec. 18 and recommended Aurora Development and Holding Inc.; the council approved the recommendation.
A representative for Aurora Development described plans for a mixed-use project with apartments above and commercial space at street level and said the developer intends to include workforce-development connections for construction-related training with local schools.
The resolution authorizing the sale notes the city procured brokerage services to market the property and that the disposition committee selected the developer. The council approved the resolution by roll call; the sale price recorded in the resolution was $55,000.
Council members thanked staff and the developers for the work to secure the Restore NY grant and move the project toward renovation.
