Shepherdsville city staff reported March 29 that Flynn Brothers was selected as the low bidder for the city's skate-park construction and provided an update on park construction timelines and funding commitments.
Administration said Flynn Brothers submitted the lowest bid at $426,406.00; a second bid by a contractor listed as Yokum (or similar name in the file) was about $437,000. Staff told council that Flynn Brothers’ bid included larger material quantities in some line items and remained the low bid after reviewing quantities and included services.
Council staff said the skate park construction is tentatively scheduled for mid‑June. The city also reported the disc‑golf feature is scheduled to be completed before Labor Day, and other park elements — including a playground, stormwater work and a filtration building — are slated for future phases. Staff said one of the planned Gaga ball courts will be relocated adjacent to the skate park; an Eagle Scout candidate is assisting with that component.
In funding news, City staff confirmed that the University of Louisville has committed an initial $20,000 payment on May 1 and will make $20,000 annual payments for the next four years, for a total of $100,000 toward the playground and related projects. Staff said the first $20,000 payment is expected to be executed within six weeks.
Councilors also received a broader parks update: landscaping and aesthetic work near the roadway and pavilion, continuing construction at the aquatic center and plans for event‑day parking and logistics for the city's summer events.
No formal procurement vote was recorded in the transcript; staff said Flynn Brothers was selected and noted the company is employee‑owned. Councilors asked staff to continue coordination with the contractor and provide construction schedules to the council.
