Ariana Kirkpatrick, a speaker during public comment, told the South Colonie Central School District meeting that an assignment called “The Wolf” helped her cope with depression and anxiety and motivated her to pursue creative work.
"The real reason why I decided to, make The Wolf is because, I struggle with depression and anxiety," Kirkpatrick said. She told the board that completing the project gave her energy and confidence: "When you feel like you're something, that's when, like, okay, I'm able to I have energy to do this because I feel like I did something successful. I'm a creator. I am a musician, and I'm not gonna let nobody stop me even though they don't think that I'm not worthy to be an artist or worthy to be so."
Kirkpatrick said Ms. Locke assigned the project and that it helped her find motivation. She urged others to try to encourage themselves and not give up: "Just try to tell yourself to not give up on yourself. Get yourself moving for you to feel like you're something." The remarks focused on personal experience and encouragement rather than requests for district action.
The transcript does not show any formal motion, vote, or other board action related to the project; Kirkpatrick's comments were recorded as part of the public-comment portion of the meeting.
