Historic Florence Foundation and Junior Parada winners honored; organizers report large youth participation at rodeo events

The Florence Town Council on Feb. 18 heard presentations from the Historic Florence Foundation and the town’s Community Services staff recognizing winners of the 2024 Florence Junior Parada and the 2024 Hometown Holiday Parade, and received an overview of youth rodeo activities held at the Charles Whitlow Rodeo Arena.
Bill Foster, representing the Historic Florence Foundation board, told the council the foundation manages the Florence Junior Parada under contract with the town and described last year’s events: "This last year was the 90th annual Florence Junior Parada, and we had a great turnout. We had over 445 contestants in various divisions... Over 1,800 spectators between Friday through Sunday," Foster said. He added none of the children or animals were injured during the event.
Community Services Coordinator Kyle Wright announced winners for parade categories, thanking title sponsor Florence Copper and noting increases in equestrian entries. Awards included Best Equestrian to the Historic Florence Foundation Youth Rodeo, Best Civic Organization to the Coolidge Florence Elks Lodge, Best Marching to the Florence High School Band, and the Mayor’s Choice in the Hometown Holiday Parade to the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry.
Why it matters: The foundation and parks-and-rec department described the youth rodeo series as a recurring community program that draws local participants and visitors from across the region, provides youth opportunities in rodeo events, and supports downtown activity through fundraisers and sponsorships.
Youth participants: Organizers introduced local youth competitors — Caden Smith, Caden Anderson and Aria Duran — and played short interview clips in which the children described their involvement and goals. The foundation noted the youth series runs monthly and that the foundation’s operations are driven by sponsorship and community fundraising.
Follow-up and acknowledgments: Foster and Wright thanked Vice Mayor Kathy Adams, who pledged support, and Florence Copper for sponsorship. Organizers said they will schedule additional fundraisers and events to sustain the youth series and thanked the town for four years of operational support.
