Irrigation and turf projects on schedule; water usage and spring aerification planned

Todd Patty, the golf maintenance manager, updated the committee on several course projects including the Echo Mesa irrigation main-line road crossings, a turf conversion schedule on a No. 9 fairway, and the spring aerification schedule.
Patty said crews had installed road-crossing main lines on Terra Vista and Trail Ridge Drive and planned a pump-station connection the week of March 24. The turf conversion at No. 9 fairway is scheduled for the week of June 9 and will use a mix of sprigs and sod; staff will sod portions of the green complex to allow mower access with plywood during the work. Patty also announced a five-day closure for Grandview (April 10–14) to perform half-inch core greens aerification and deep-tine aerification on fairways; the closed days include a portion of the weekend but preserve Tuesday/Wednesday ladies’ and men’s-day play as scheduled.
Year-to-date water usage is above last year: Patty reported the golf division used about 221 acre-feet more water year-to-date than last year, and staff estimated they saved roughly 20 acre-feet across the seven courses from a short-term water shutdown and rainfall, equal to approximately 6.5 million gallons. Staff noted electrical pumping costs are the larger operating expense associated with irrigation but did not provide a specific dollar amount.
Ending: Staff will proceed with the scheduled closures and conversions and return updates at future committee meetings; the pump-station connection and No. 9 turf conversion are on the spring/summer schedule.
