Golf superintendent outlines irrigation and greens plan, consultant recommendations and course improvements

The golf superintendent briefed the commission on course maintenance, agronomy and capital planning.
He said the course brought in irrigation designer David Yoshimura (Fairway Irrigation Design) to produce a design for the older inner-loop irrigation system and hired turf consultant Steve McDonald to recommend cultural practices and products for an invasive weed on the greens. "He addressed a lot of the issues that golf leadership team had," the superintendent said of McDonald’s visit, and staff reported that recommended treatments are showing results though bentgrass growth will take time.
Staff described measures to reduce wear on tee boxes — including mapping tee-marker changes and creating new forward tees to improve pace of play — and said fairway irrigation challenges will be addressed either through phased irrigation renovation or by reducing irrigated turf where play is minimal. The superintendent also described a completed approach regrade on No. 16, including drainage work and sodding plans.
Training and equipment updates were reported: irrigation training for technicians and attendance at industry conferences were noted. Staff said most consultant recommendations have been implemented and that longer-term irrigation renovation will be pursued through capital planning.
No formal vote was taken; the presentation was informational and commissioners thanked staff for maintenance work.
