Residents ask commission to place Metcalfe Park mural on next agenda; project to be privately funded

Robin Gordon and local artist Monica Galica told the Parks, Recreation, Trails Commission during public comment that a privately funded mural is proposed for the back of the restroom building at Metcalfe Park.
Gordon said the project is being paid for by the community group Sounds of Kingman and that Monica Galica prepared the design. "We've already raised the money to do it," Gordon said, adding the design includes a coating that "makes it easier to remove graffiti" and another coating to protect the paint from sun damage.
Gordon said the mural would be placed on the back of the restroom (rather than the stage, which already has a plaque) so it would be visible to motorists on Grandview Avenue and to park visitors. She told commissioners the mural could create a photo opportunity and help draw visitors to the park.
The commission indicated staff should add the request to a future agenda. A commissioner said, "We should put this on the next agenda," and the chair confirmed that direction.
No formal vote or permit decision was recorded at the meeting. The request was presented during the call to the public; commissioners and staff noted they could not respond substantively during that portion of the meeting but would place the item on a future agenda for formal consideration.
