Kingman Council approves letter of support for Route 66 grant, directs annexation work and narrows interchange renaming options

Kingman City Council on March 4 authorized several staff requests and took votes on multiple agenda items, including a letter of support for an Arizona Community Foundation Route 66 grant, direction to begin annexation work on two areas, a narrowed list of interchange-name options to send to a public vote, and adoption of two rezonings on Bank Street.

The council voted to authorize the mayor to sign a letter of support for a $50,000 Arizona Community Foundation Route 66 grant application that would fund five restored windows on the south side of the Powerhouse building and lighting at the city’s new dog park on that site. City staff said the windows would restore previously boarded historic openings where vehicle exhibits are stored and that the Route 66 Foundation has a presence in the powerhouse.

On annexation, staff presented a multi-area cost/benefit study and the council directed staff to move forward with the annexation process for Area 1B (the airport/future industrial park and adjacent commercial corridor)…
