The Delta County Board of Commissioners on March 11 approved a set of routine and personnel items including payment of county bills, a hiring recommendation for the airport and a donation-of-sick-leave request.
Most significant votes: the board approved payment of claims totaling $374,058.75 and commissioner expenses of $2,431.01; it also accepted the airport advisory board's recommendation to extend an employment offer to Caitlin Bierman as airport manager and approved an airport advisory-board request to renew an airport display. Commissioners also voted to open donations of sick leave to assist a particular county employee and to place the IT committee report on file.
Why it matters: The payroll and claims vote releases funds for county operations; the airport hiring fills a county position that handles aviation operations and local airport functions; the sick-leave donation program affects county employee benefits and continuity of services.
Payment of bills: County staff presented claims totaling $374,058.75 and commissioner expenses of $2,431.01 and recommended payment. The board moved, seconded and approved the payments. The clerk was directed to issue orders to the county treasurer for the allowed amounts and a roll-call vote was taken; commissioners recorded affirmative votes on the motion to accept the claims.
Airport personnel and loan/ display: The airport advisory board recommended hiring Caitlin Bierman as airport manager, with a recommended starting salary of $75,000. Commissioners voted to extend an offer of employment to Bierman. Separately, the airport advisory board had requested approval to renew a static display (described in the advisory-board item as a “display”); the board approved the renewal as presented.
IT committee and other routine items: The IT committee reported work on developing a county AI policy template, improving streaming capabilities for board meetings, posting updated rules of procedure online, streamlining board packets and documenting the county data center location and its water-pipe liability. The board voted to place the IT report on file.
Donation of sick leave: Administration requested approval to open sick-leave donations to assist a county employee. The board approved the request.
Ending: Commissioners noted several upcoming meetings and deadlines, including an opioid-settlement RFP deadline (March 31) announced by the opioid task force and local training opportunities for citizen planners. Staff said the next board meeting is scheduled for April 1, 2025.
