Clerk reports post-election audits matched tabulator counts; treasurer warns of property-tax scam mailings

The Cass County clerk told the Board of Commissioners the office completed an audit of four precincts from the November election, including a hand tally of the presidential race, and that the hand counts matched tabulator results.
The clerk said the audit included a large early-voting site that tallied about 8,000 ballots; she noted that human hand counts sometimes required repeated tallies but that the tabulator counts were accurate and matched the hand tally in the audited precincts.
The clerk also announced a May special election for certain precincts and stated absentee ballots would be available beginning March 22; the meeting record said there will be no early in-person voting for that special election, only absentee ballots.
Separately, Treasurer Hope Anderson flagged a property-tax scam affecting Cass County homeowners. Anderson said the county issued a press release and that about 3,000 homeowners received a recent mailing that created confusion; she described scam contacts arriving by letter, phone, text and personal visits and urged residents to call the treasurer’s office at (269) 445-4468 if they receive suspicious notices about delinquent taxes.
