Board gives consent to pilot AP Seminar; staff to seek grant-funded teacher training

At the Feb. 26 work session the board granted consensus for the district to pilot AP Seminar, a freshman-to-sophomore–level AP course focused on research and English skills, and authorized staff to pursue related teacher training.
Lisa King and curriculum staff said AP Seminar would be offered to 10th-grade students and that the district does not impose prerequisites on AP enrollment: "Any student can take any AP course they want," a staff presenter said. The district noted a grant opportunity that could pay for teacher attendance at the College Board AP Institute this summer; staff asked for permission to pilot in order to register teachers and accept grant funds if awarded.
Action and timing Board members raised no objections to piloting the course. Staff confirmed the pilot would run during the next school year and that approval in spring is necessary to register teachers for summer AP training and to accept a potential grant.
Ending If the board affirms the pilot during its March meeting, staff said they would proceed with teacher registration for the AP Institute and pilot the course in participating high schools in 2025–26.
