Operations staff delivered the March operations report March 12, detailing system changes in nutrition services, transportation and facilities projects and scheduling for a seismic retrofit.
The operations report matters because the seismic project and other facilities work will temporarily close multiple school facilities and the transportation updates affect daily student routes.
On nutrition services, staff said that beginning Feb. 7 the district shifted from full meals to nutritious snacks on read days, and that the change reduced food waste and produced cost savings; staff reported a 73% cost savings per student attributed to that change and said the switch improved staff efficiency while still providing a balanced snack.
Transportation staff reported successful bell‑time and dismissal adjustments at the middle and elementary schools and said that on the busiest winter season they completed 114 athletic trips and logged 101,816 miles. The department transports 15 students to programs outside the district and added three new CDL‑licensed drivers in February, staff said. Staff also described technology apps used for operations, including a Reunification app and an Estacada High School Read Day app that, staff said, help collect real‑time data to improve systems.
Facilities staff said the CTE complex heat pump installation will be completed over spring break to replace failing heating units, the exterior grading and fencing at the softball batting facility are finished, and siding, electrical and fiber installations are complete. A seismic retrofit funded through a seismic grant will require abatement work and will temporarily close the large gym, PE locker rooms, upstairs wrestling room and sports hall during spring break and again starting Friday, May 9, with expected re‑opening for fall sports on Aug. 12, staff said. Key retrofit work includes reinforcing east and west walls with concrete, new drywall and paint and floor refinishing in the main gym.
Staff also noted that the stadium concession plumbing tie‑ins will occur over spring break and that facilities staff have increased weekend event coverage and installed new locks to improve stadium security.
Board members asked about staffing backfills for three positions and operations responded that two were vacancies and one was an added position due to growth in capacity.
No formal board action was taken on the operations report at the March 12 meeting.
