District operations staff told the school board that work on two bond projects is moving forward under surety oversight after earlier contractor terminations.
Pat McGuff, operations staff, said Zurich, the district's bonding company, has "selected a general contractor that is agreeable to the district" for the Frog Pond project and that activity would begin to ramp up near spring break. "Most of the subcontractors that were on the project to begin with have been retained," McGuff said.
Remo, a district construction manager, told trustees the AT Creek Middle School contract had been terminated and the district is working with the surety to "determine a path forward." He said the surety is expected to propose next steps within weeks and that staff are working to preserve the district's rights while litigation and contractual issues are resolved. "We are in a bit of a pause on some other things while we wait for that to play out," Remo said.
Why it matters: Both projects were funded by a capital bond; delays and contractor terminations have slowed work and billing, meaning some bond funds are allocated but not yet under contract. McGuff clarified that a delta between current commitments and funds does not mean the funds are undesignated, only that a contract is not yet in place.
Staff said small works from the prior summer are complete and that they expect significant activity on Frog Pond in the coming weeks. The board asked for continued updates as the surety and district finalize contracts and site mobilization.
