Detroit Lakes awards life-saving citation to off-duty EMT Ryan Lorsong

The Detroit Lakes Police Department recognized off-duty EMT Ryan Lorsong with a life-saving award for actions during an emergency on Sept. 6, 2024. Chief Todd said Lorsong, who works for Saint Mary's Essentia EMS, was studying at home when he heard an emergency dispatch nearby, drove to the scene, cut a woman down from a second-floor balcony, found no pulse, started CPR and resuscitated her prior to ambulance arrival.
Chief Todd told the council he had spoken with the victim and her family, who credited Lorsong with saving the woman’s life; the patient was transported to Fargo via Life Link helicopter and, according to staff, has since made a full recovery. The chief presented a citation and the city and police department life-saving award.
