Westlake Drive Phase 3 design progresses; council schedules joint meeting with Becker County

City and county engineers are finalizing numbers and will hold a joint meeting with Becker County and the city council in February to review Westlake Drive Phase 3 design and funding.
City staff told the Detroit Lakes City Council that design work on the Westlake Drive Phase 3 project is underway and that grant and engineering numbers must be submitted this March to remain eligible for funding.
Public Works Chair Alderman Zeman said city and county staff and engineers have been preparing the project early so required engineering numbers can be submitted by March and final reports to the state will be due by May 15. Staff indicated the project schedule is condensed and a joint work session between Becker County commissioners and the full city council is being planned for February to review designs, options and funding requirements.
Council members were informed that the engineers will finalize cost numbers so grant applications and a potential funding strategy can be completed. Staff said the team is coordinating architecture/engineering work with the county because the roadway is a joint project and grant eligibility requires timely submittal of preliminary engineering numbers.
