Texas Tech System regents introduce new communications director, honor Regent Pat Gordon and remember donor Pat Hickman

At the open meeting, the Board of Regents and system leadership introduced new and recently promoted staff and vice presidents across system institutions and recognized long-standing supporters.
Chancellor Mitchell introduced Christina Butler, who joined the chancellor’s office in January as executive director of communications and media relations and will lead system communications and serve as a point of contact for campus communications teams. Butler previously served in several Texas Tech communications roles and most recently as vice president for marketing, communications and membership at the Texas Tech Alumni Association; she is a two-time Texas Tech graduate in English and strategic communication and innovation.
Regent Pat Gordon was recognized for service to the system and for recent honors from the law school; the board noted a scholarship established by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon and his award as a distinguished alumnus. The board also observed the recent death of J. Pat Hickman, longtime bank CEO and donor; speakers described Hickman’s philanthropy, his return to complete a degree after many years, and his support for Texas Tech programs and the region.
Other introductions included Angelo State University successes recognized by President Hawkins (San Angelo Chamber of Commerce special merit award; Concho Valley Council of Government Friend of Regionalism award) and the introductions of new vice presidents at Midwestern State University, including a new vice president for administration and finance and a vice president for university advancement. The board also recognized faculty elevated to Professor Emeritus and distinguished professor titles at the Health Sciences Center: Dr. Robert J. Salem and Dr. Janet L. Miller, for long service in medical education and regional health care.
Remarks were delivered by campus presidents, regents and system leaders. Those recognitions were presented as part of the meeting’s introductions and recognitions section and did not include formal board action.
