Odessa R-VII to host Central Missouri Job Olympics for special-education transition students

Miss Johnson (presenter) described the event’s structure: students prepare a resume and application, undergo an on-site interview and perform two judged job skills. Schools compete and top students and the top school receive ribbons, medals and trophies. The presentation emphasized that the Job Olympics helps students demonstrate life and workplace skills — for example, coffee-shop tasks, shelf stocking, sandwich preparation and addressing envelopes — and that community volunteers, employers and education professionals serve as judges.
Staff said the event is a transition opportunity that connects students with Vocational Rehabilitation and other local supports: "So we work with Voc Rehab. Miss Denise comes in once a month and works with our seniors," a staff presenter said, explaining local partnerships that can support student placement and postsecondary pathways.
Ending: The board expressed support and several members committed to attend; staff will continue volunteer outreach and final event planning.
