District reports midyear diagnostic gains; secondary pilots adjusted

District staff presented midyear diagnostic results showing measurable growth across multiple grade spans and described changes to curriculum pilots at the secondary level.

Miss Smith, a district staff member who presented the data, told the board that kindergarten through fifth grade showed notable gains in both ELA and math, with decreases in the percentage of students three or more grade levels below (the ‘‘red’’ category) and increases in mid/above-grade-level performance. She said the district used the diagnostic to inform instruction and pilot decisions.

The administration said the elementary math pilot used earlier in the year did not serve middle-school students as intended, so the district stopped the middle-school placement in that product and launched a Reveal Math pilot for middle and high school. Staff also described elementary pilots continuing and the addition of ELA pilots in grades 6–12. Principals, instructional coaches and RPDC consultants attended a professional-development day, and teachers across grade spans participated in vertical and content-area planning.

Board members asked about attendance/assessment thresholds and implementation timelines; staff said the goal was to have a vetted resource implemented by the end of the school year and that some pilots would continue to be evaluated. Staff emphasized that consistent resources and coaching at the elementary level had shown results and that the district seeks to carry that improvement upward.
