County accepts $400 bid on small triangular parcel to cover back taxes

The Orange County Ways and Means Committee voted to accept a $400 bid for a small triangular county parcel whose shape and size resulted from mid-century street changes.
Paul Wiley, presenting the sale, said the parcel previously attracted a $360 bid in May 2024 and that the current bid of $400 meets the county’s minimum. Wiley described the parcel as a “little funky triangle” created when a stairway and a mid-century road realignment left small remnant lots. Wiley said the parcel lies within a residential district and that no adjacent owner came forward before the sale; the bidder is not an adjacent property owner, Wiley told the committee.
A motion to accept the recommendation passed by voice vote.
Ending County staff said they notify adjacent owners prior to tax-sale dispositions and that proceeds will cover back taxes on the parcel.
